Senior Mechanical Design & Systems Engineer

Senior Mechanical Design & Systems Engineer – The Role:

• Design bespoke machinery, test rigs and mechanical systems using SolidWorks
• Develop concepts through to detailed manufacture-ready designs
• Design mechanical assemblies, structural frameworks and pipework systems
• Produce manufacturing drawings, tolerance stack studies, GD&T and FEA analysis
• Select materials, manufacturing methods and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components
• Generate Bills of Materials, technical files and engineering documentation
• Carry out technical risk assessments, Design FMEAs and project reviews
• Support UKCA / CE conformity assessments and machinery compliance activities
• Lead customer and internal design reviews throughout project delivery
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Support proposals, quotations, technical planning and project costings
• Assist manufacturing, prototype development, FATs, SATs and commissioning activities
• Manage multiple engineering projects while ensuring quality, budget and programme objectives are achieved

Senior Mechanical Design & Systems Engineer – What We're Looking For:

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
• 7+ years' experience in bespoke mechanical design, machinery or test equipment development
• Strong SolidWorks CAD experience
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and FEA
• Experience designing complete mechanical systems from concept through to delivery
• Understanding of machining, fabrication, welding and assembly processes
• Experience selecting and specifying COTS components
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage projects independently and take ownership of technical delivery

Desirable Experience:

• Pipework and fluid system design
• P&ID development using Microsoft Visio
• UKCA / CE Machinery Directive compliance
• Aerospace, R&D or advanced engineering environments
• FAT, SAT and commissioning activities
• Technical leadership and customer-facing project responsibilities
