Mechanical Design Engineer

£35K - £50K + Overtime

Mechanical Design Engineer - The Role:

  • Adapt and customise existing machine designs to meet customer-specific requirements
  • Lead mechanical design throughout the full project lifecycle—from concept to installation
  • Produce detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings in SolidWorks
  • Generate full design documentation: Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical files, and assembly instructions
  • Design complete machine assemblies and sub-assemblies from the ground up in line with company and food industry standards
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to ensure fully integrated systems
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, build support, and final commissioning
  • Ensure compliance with relevant machinery safety standards and hygienic design principles

 

Mechanical Design Engineer - The Person:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3–5 years’+ experience in mechanical design, ideally with automation, special purpose machinery, or food industry equipment
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, sheet metal design, fabrication, and assembly
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, CE marking, and hygienic machinery standards
  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation skills, and problem-solving mindset
  • Comfortable in a hands-on environment and willing to see designs through from start to finish

 

Located in Bedfordshire, this role would be commutable from Milton Keynes, St Neots, Biggleswade and Rushden.
