One of the UK’s leading providers of bespoke automation and system-integration solutions is now seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join their team in the West Midlands. With over 35 years’ experience, the Group serves a wide variety of sectors including Medical Device, Automotive, Plastics, Aerospace and Industrial Manufacturing.

 

Control Systems Engineer

£45000 - £55000 + Pension. Birmingham. Ref: 24938

 

Controls Engineer - The Role:

  • Design and develop automation control systems from concept through to completion, ensuring all solutions meet the technical specifications and performance criteria.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems – primarily using Omron PLCs and Fanuc robots
  • Support the complete project lifecycle, including planning, component specification, procurement, system commissioning and documentation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical and software engineers to deliver high-quality solutions to customer requirements.
  • Ensure all systems are developed in compliance with ISO 9001 standards and meet CE/UKCA safety regulations.
  • Assist in generating technical manuals and supporting documentation for delivered systems.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of internal engineering standards and procedures.
  • Provide input on risk assessments and support testing and validation activities on-site and during customer handovers.

 

Controls Engineer - The Person:

  • Preferably apprentice-trained and/or educated to HNC/HND/Degree level in Electrical, Automation or Control Systems Engineering.
  • Strong experience in programming and integrating control systems, ideally with Omron PLCs and Fanuc robotic arms.
  • Hands-on experience in the design, development and commissioning of industrial automation or robotic systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical and proactive approach.
  • Effective communicator, capable of working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • A flexible and positive attitude with a commitment to delivering projects “Right First Time”.

Located in Birmingham, the role is commutable from Bromsgrove, Solihull, Redditch, Worcester, Coventry and surrounding West Midlands areas.
