A well-established UK engineering services provider is looking for a Junior Automation Engineer to join its growing team. With over three decades of experience delivering turnkey engineering solutions across the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and FMCG sectors, the business is experiencing significant growth and is expanding its automation capability.

 

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career Engineer to develop within a supportive environment, working alongside experienced automation specialists on bespoke industrial control projects.

 

You will join a specialist software and automation team responsible for delivering control systems for manufacturing and process environments. Projects range from new installations through to upgrades and commissioning across major UK manufacturers. Initially you will work closely with senior engineers and receive mentoring as you develop your experience across the full project lifecycle.

 

Junior Controls Engineer - The Role:

  • Supporting the delivery of PLC / HMI / SCADA software projects from concept through to commissioning
  • Assisting with Functional Design Specifications (FDS) based on client requirements
  • PLC programming and modifications using platforms such as Siemens and Rockwell
  • Supporting control system configuration and network architecture
  • Assisting with commissioning and fault finding on client sites
  • Producing documentation including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Supporting project delivery to agreed timescales and budgets

 

Projects are typically within FMCG and pharmaceutical manufacturing, often involving process systems for product flow, mixing, and packaging operations.

 

Junior Controls Engineer - The Person:

  • A degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Software Engineering or similar
  • Some experience with PLC programming (Siemens or Rockwell beneficial)
  • Knowledge of HMI / SCADA systems
  • Strong IT skills including MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with customers and colleagues
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel - c25-30% across the UK

 

The role offers a flexible working model, combining remote work, office collaboration and client site visits.

 

  •  Work from home for software development
  •  Regular visits to the site in the South West for panel test/review
  •  Travel to customer sites across the UK for commissioning and project support (typically around 25% travel)
  •  

You will have the opportunity to work on high-value engineering projects for major UK manufacturers while building strong technical expertise in industrial automation.

 

All travel costs are paid. Ideally you will live within 2 hours of Bristol, however, if you are happy to travel to Bristol roughly twice a month alongisde travelling to site when needed, the client is flexible for you to live elsehwere. Engineers will work from home to develop software.
