Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design and product development, working on cutting-edge engineered systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Translating customer requirements into mechanical specifications and designs
- Producing 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, particularly sheet metal designs
- Selecting components with consideration to cost, quality, and compliance standards
- Structuring and managing models within PDM systems
- Collaborating with electrical and systems engineers to ensure integrated, safe, and cost-effective designs
- Supporting manufacturing and working closely with suppliers and vendors
- Developing prototypes and supporting testing activities
- Producing detailed engineering documentation including drawings, layouts, and calculations
- Resolving design issues during fabrication, production, and testing
- Delivering accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensuring timely release of designs
Mechanical Design Engineer - The Person:
- Proven experience of mechanical design within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (PDM and FEA knowledge advantageous)
- Experience with sheet metal, welded assemblies, or similar structures (essential)
- Experience of container fabrication ideal
- Knowledge of cable routing or control panel integration (preferred)
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Familiar with BOMs and engineering documentation
Based in Staffordshire, this role is commutable from Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Cannock, and Derby.
