A global, market-leading engineering manufacturer specialising in advanced power solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. With international operations and a strong reputation for innovation, the company delivers complex, high-performance systems to customers across a wide range of demanding industries worldwide.

 

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design and product development, working on cutting-edge engineered systems.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Translating customer requirements into mechanical specifications and designs
  • Producing 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, particularly sheet metal designs
  • Selecting components with consideration to cost, quality, and compliance standards
  • Structuring and managing models within PDM systems
  • Collaborating with electrical and systems engineers to ensure integrated, safe, and cost-effective designs
  • Supporting manufacturing and working closely with suppliers and vendors
  • Developing prototypes and supporting testing activities
  • Producing detailed engineering documentation including drawings, layouts, and calculations
  • Resolving design issues during fabrication, production, and testing
  • Delivering accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensuring timely release of designs

 

Mechanical Design Engineer - The Person:

  • Proven experience of mechanical design within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (PDM and FEA knowledge advantageous)
  • Experience with sheet metal, welded assemblies, or similar structures (essential)
  • Experience of container fabrication ideal
  • Knowledge of cable routing or control panel integration (preferred)
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Familiar with BOMs and engineering documentation

 

Based in Staffordshire, this role is commutable from Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Cannock, and Derby.
