End User Manufacturing - Complex Process Plant

£45-60k + Pension (9-5 Monday to Friday)

South East. Ref: 25509

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing organisation that has recently completed a major £28 million production facility as part of an ongoing programme of investment across its UK operations. As the business continues to expand and modernise its manufacturing capability, it is looking to strengthen its Controls team with the appointment of an experienced Control Systems Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a business that combines the stability of a long-established organisation with a forward-thinking approach to automation, process control and continuous improvement. Working across multiple bespoke manufacturing plants, you'll be involved in technically challenging projects where safety, reliability and operational excellence are paramount.

Control Systems Engineer - The Role:

Working as part of an experienced Controls  team, you will be responsible for the design, development, maintenance and continuous improvement of control systems across a number of complex manufacturing plants.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing and commissioning PLC, SCADA and DCS control systems from concept through to implementation
  • Supporting and developing Rockwell Automation platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk and PlantPAx - any PLC experience is accepted, they will train on specific Rockwell technology
  • Configuring and maintaining industrial Ethernet networks, managed switches and server/client control system architectures
  • Supporting Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure and cyber security across manufacturing operations
  • Designing and maintaining reliable control system architecture to support plant performance and resilience
  • Producing engineering documentation including URS, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Cause & Effect Charts and Control Narratives
  • Supporting Functional Safety systems and participating in HAZOP studies and Management of Change (MOC) activities
  • Providing technical support during commissioning, upgrades, fault-finding and plant optimisation projects
  • Providing occasional support to other UK manufacturing sites when required

Control Systems Engineer - The Person:

We are keen to speak with Control Systems Engineers, Automation Engineers or Process Control Engineers who can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience working with PLC, SCADA and/or DCS control systems within complex process manufacturing environments
  • A strong understanding of industrial networking, control system architecture, managed switches and server/client environments
  • Experience supporting Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure and cyber security within manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and IEC 61511 principles
  • Experience designing, modifying and supporting control systems throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Previous involvement in Management of Change (MOC) processes and process safety activities
  • Strong fault-finding, commissioning and system optimisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, maintenance and operations teams

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Rockwell Automation platforms including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk & PlantPAx
  • Siemens S7 and WinCC
  • OT Cyber Security
  • Virtualised control system environments
  • COMAH, chemical, pharmaceutical, water treatment, energy or other process manufacturing environments

Engineers with strong process control experience gained on alternative PLC platforms are encouraged to apply, as product-specific training can be provided. However, experience of complex process manufacturing is essential.

If you're a Control Systems Engineer looking for a role that offers technical variety, autonomy and the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a growing manufacturing organisation, we'd like to hear from you.

Located in South East, this role would be commutable from Tilbury, Dartford, Greenhithe, Erith, Bexleyheath, Basildon, Brentford, Romford, Rochester, Gillingham and Upminster.
