Work on complex automation projects that keep modern warehouses, distribution centres and logistics operations moving.
This established automation business is looking for an experienced Senior Controls & Automation Engineer to take technical ownership of control system projects, from initial design and PLC development through to commissioning and customer handover.
You'll be working primarily with Siemens S7 and TIA Portal, developing PLC, HMI and SCADA systems while taking a lead role in project delivery, technical problem-solving and customer support.
Senior Controls Engineer - The Role:
You'll be responsible for delivering complete control system solutions across automated logistics and material handling projects, including:
- Leading the design, development, testing and commissioning of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
- Developing control system architectures, FDS, URS and testing documentation.
- Supporting electrical control panel design and field installations.
- onfiguring and commissioning VSDs, motor control and motion control systems.
- Leading controls activities through installation, commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing.
- Supporting new installations, upgrades, retrofits and continuous improvement projects.
- Integrating equipment including barcode readers, scanners, printers, weighing systems and tracking systems.
- Providing technical input into project planning, risk assessments and technical reviews.
- Supporting the sales team with technical proposals, system concepts and controls estimates.
- Developing engineering standards, best practices and reusable software solutions.
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers.
Senior Controls Engineer - The Person:
We're looking for an experienced Controls/Automation Engineer with:
- 5+ years' industrial automation experience, ideally within logistics, warehousing, distribution or material handling.
- Strong Siemens PLC programming experience.
- Extensive experience with TIA Portal and Siemens S7.
- A strong background in controls engineering, testing and commissioning.
- Experience with conveyors, sorters or automated warehouse systems.
- Excellent electrical and controls fault-finding skills.
- Knowledge of Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP and industrial networking.
- Experience producing technical documentation such as FDS, URS and commissioning documentation.
- The ability to take technical ownership of projects and work confidently with customers.
- A HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation or a related discipline.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites throughout the UK.
Experience with Rockwell, HMI/SCADA, safety PLCs, WCS and high-speed distribution centres would be advantageous.
Located in Cheshire, this role would be commutable from St Helens, Northwich, Chester, Daresbury, Runcorn, Widnes, Manchester, Stockport and Macclesfield.
