An established UK engineering business is expanding its controls and automation capability, bringing more development work in-house and investing in the next generation of its products.
This is a varied role working across a range of engineered equipment, covering both new product development and the re-engineering of existing systems. You'll work closely with an experienced Senior Engineer and have the opportunity to help standardise the company's approach to controls and automation as the product range continues to evolve.
The role would suit someone with a solid grounding in PLC programming who is looking to develop their experience in a hands-on engineering environment. You don't need to be an expert — a couple of years' experience, or strong PLC knowledge gained through an internship could be enough.
Control & Automation Engineer – The Role:
- Designing and developing control and automation systems for new and existing equipment
- PLC programming and software development using WAGO / CODESYS
- Re-engineering existing and legacy control systems
- Supporting the transition from electronic-based control to modern PLC-based systems
- Developing and maintaining control software and documentation
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across existing equipment
- Working with HMIs, automation hardware and associated control technologies
- Working alongside electrical, mechanical and other engineering disciplines
- Supporting the specification of components and systems with suppliers
- Contributing to design reviews, technical documentation and continuous improvement
- Helping to standardise control systems and approaches across the product range
- Supporting new product development and future technology projects
Control & Automation Engineer – What We're Looking For:
- Experience with PLC programming or control systems
- A good understanding of PLC logic and automated equipment
- Experience with Structured Text, Ladder or Function Block Diagram
- An interest in developing your skills with CODESYS
- Some knowledge of HMIs, automation hardware or electrical/electronic systems
- A methodical approach to problem solving
- Good attention to detail
- The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
- A genuine interest in learning and developing new technology
Knowledge of Python, C, C#, HTML, JavaScript or CSS would be helpful.
