This is a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to lead a design team to deliver bespoke factory automation, special-purpose machinery, robotics, conveyors and vision inspection systems. You’ll take overall responsibility for the Mechanical Design function, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget and to a high technical standard, while driving continuous improvement across the department.

This is a fully site-based role and due to the rural location, your own transport is essential.

Located in Gloucestershire, this role would be commutable from Gloucester, Stroud, Cheltenham, Prestbury, Bishops Cleeve and other surrounding areas. Hours 8-5 Monday to Thursday and 8-2 Fridays.

 

Mechanical Design Manager - The Role:

  • Lead and manage an established Mechanical Design team
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring and performance management
  • Oversee mechanical design for bespoke automation and special-purpose machinery
  • Manage complex projects from concept through to manufacture, assembly and commissioning
  • Plan team workload, resources and project priorities
  • Maintain high standards across 3D CAD, drawings, BOMs and design practices
  • Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and design efficiency
  • Work closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Electrical, Controls and Procurement teams
  • Set team objectives, KPIs and development plans
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and to specification

 

Mechanical Design Manager - The Person:

  • Proven experience leading or managing a Mechanical Design team
  • Strong 3D CAD experience and engineering design knowledge
  • Background in automation, special-purpose machinery, robotics or similar
  • Experience managing complex engineering projects through to manufacture and commissioning
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
  • Commercially aware with strong ownership and accountability
  • Committed to health and safety and high engineering standards
  • Legally eligible to work in the UK – no sponsorship available
