A globally established automation and process solutions specialist is launching its UK operation — and is looking for an experienced automation engineer who can play a key role in establishing and growing the business.

This is an opportunity to join at an early stage, combining your technical expertise with customer relationships, project understanding and the commercial side of automation. You’ll work closely with the international engineering team, help develop the UK customer base and have the opportunity to grow into a wider leadership position as the business develops.

As the UK operation develops, you’ll become a key technical and commercial contact for customers across the UK.

Initially, the role will focus on understanding customer requirements, developing relationships, supporting opportunities and working with the international engineering team to deliver automation and process solutions. Over time, you’ll have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility for the UK business, including developing the team, shaping the market strategy and helping establish a permanent UK presence.

This would suit an engineer who enjoys understanding the bigger picture, working with customers and identifying opportunities — and who has the ambition to do more than simply deliver projects.

Automation Lead - The Role:

  • Act as a technical and commercial point of contact for UK customers
  • Develop and maintain relationships across the Food & Beverage and Pharmaceutical sectors
  • Understand customer requirements and identify opportunities for automation and process solutions
  • Support the development of proposals, commercial opportunities and project strategies
  • Work closely with international engineering teams to develop and deliver solutions
  • Help establish and grow the UK customer base
  • Contribute to the development of the UK go-to-market strategy
  • Share ideas on how the business can grow its revenue, capabilities and customer offering
  • Support the recruitment, mentoring and development of a UK engineering team as the operation expands
  • Travel internationally for training, collaboration and customer engagement

Automation Lead - The Person:

We’re looking for an experienced automation engineer who understands the industry and has the capability to grow into a wider technical and commercial leadership role.

  • Experience of industrial automation, preferably within Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical environments
  • A strong technical background in automation, controls or process engineering
  • Experience working with customers, understanding requirements and supporting the development of solutions
  • An understanding of automation projects, engineering delivery and the commercial considerations involved - batch process and PCS7/PlantPAX experience highly advantageous
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with customers, partners and colleagues
  • An interest in business development and the ambition to take on greater commercial responsibility
  • Experience leading, mentoring or supporting other engineers would be advantageous
  • The confidence to represent the business externally and contribute ideas for its growth
  • Willingness to travel internationally (20–30%)

Sponsorship is not available for this position, you must be eligible to live and work in the UK. EU passports very helpful for ease of travel.

This is a rare opportunity to join a respected global automation business at an early stage of its UK expansion. You’ll have the technical credibility to make a difference from day one, with the opportunity to grow into a broader leadership role as the operation develops.

The role will begin as a home-based position, with plans for a physical office within and around either the South West, the West Midlands or the North West of England. We are seeking an engineer who is already within the area or would relocate locally in the near future. The final office location will be agreed based on where the successful candidate is based.
