Principal Mechanical Engineer

£55,000 - £69,000 + Pension, Flexi-Time

£30M T/O Company. Hybrid role. 3 days office.

Principal Mechanical Engineer - The Role:

  • Management of the design of high integrity automation solutions incorporating
  • structures, hoists, mechanisms and drive systems and production of supporting design calculations.
  • Equipment life extension assessment / substantiation, safety function, code
  • and legislation compliance.
  • Site equipment surveys
  • Interpretation of Design Input Requirements into fit for purpose solutions.
  • Definition and verification of fit for purpose calculations
  • Delivery in accordance with allocated budgeted cost and timescales  
  • Day to day management of the engineering team (up to 10 staff)
  • Supervision, verification and production of design deliverables
  • Interface co-ordination with other engineering disciplines
  • Implementation of UK H&S legislation and appropriate design standards
  • Interpretation and incorporation of external specialist engineering design]

  • Production of key technical documentation including Technical file, O&M
  • Manuals, Spares Lists, Test Documentation etc.
  • Initiation and implementation of Design Change Control and Contract variation

  • Technical Specifications for bespoke high integrity in-cell and out-cell cranes /
  • handling equipment including Technical Specifications, Design Substantiation Reports, Works Test Schedules, Operating and Maintenance Manuals.
  • Feasibility studies associated with existing site cranes / mechanical handling

  • Alternative options studies, addressing engineered solutions.
  • Technical to support safety case submissions / compliance.
  • Tender technical estimates, scope, budget and program

 

Principal Mechanical Engineer - The Person:

  • Degree qualified, ideally chartered with experience of either nuclear decommissioning, pressure systems, remote handling equipment, lifting, process plant or heavy engineering plant

 

Position is hybrid. 3 days office. Position available for contractors inside IR35. 1 year duration. Competitive rates paid.

 

Located in West Midlands, this role would be commutable from Birmingham, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and surrounding areas.
